thewhitegallery is now closed for the month of august. little people require attention. please do visit us again from wednesday 7 september.
in the meantime, if you get a yearning for original art, please do pop in to the newly named amuse cafe & brasserie on chestergate in macclesfield, and enjoy some of the wonderful art they have on their walls, curtesy of thewhitegallery.
and they're open in the evenings now too, so if you fancy a glass of wine and some great home cooked, locally-sourced food (including bangers from Heathcotes!) be sure to visit on a thursday, friday or saturday evening, from 6.30pm. always good to book, so call them on 01625 664404 and tell them i sent you! or you could down load a menu at www.amuse-cafe.com and see what tickles your tastebuds....
enjoy your summer.

john smith & anthony lewis-dowell
asda, by john smith
two new artists to get very excited about - john smith and anthony lewis-dowell.
interestingly, these two studied art together and there is definitely a similarity in their styles - their use of colour and the looseness of their brush strokes for sure, and the nod to liam spenser too - but none of this takes away from their original talent.
john smith's oil paintings of stockport are quite beautiful, making the ordinary extraordinary with his use of light and colour, and his impressions of bollington and white nancy - a landmark entirely new to him - are inspired.
white nancy, by john smith
anthony lewis-dowell describes himself as a former 'bad-boy biker' but you see only good things in his oil paintings. trained in graphic design, you can see influences of this in his paintings of iconic objects like a marmite jar and a kodak camera. then he takes you by surprise, painting a beautiful city scape of manchester.

all these paintings are available to buy at thewhitegallery, prices on request.
